Today in California: daffodils, dogs in the sun, a purple rose stretching towards the sky.
Today in Washington, DC: a racist president yet again makes his hatred plain for all to see. The soulless people who work for him act as though we do not have eyes, ears, brains.
I know this is not new. As a white woman, I am trying to stop being part of the problem. I know I have so much to learn. I’m working on it. If you are too, here are some things I’ve done recently – I’d love your suggestions:
- Read and gifted the book ‘White Women: Everything You Already Know About Your Own Racism and How to Do Better’ by Regina Jackson and Saira Rao.
- Purchased shirts from Mahogany Mommies
- Donated to the Obama Foundation (in rejection of the aforementioned racist post by the most powerful person in the country): https://www.obama.org
I know this doesn’t fix anything. But if want to say we’re different from the small man in the Oval Office, we need to actually be different.
I will continue working on that.
The sun is shining here in California. But the implications of what’s happening now in DC are much more far-reaching and long-lasting. We should not look away.
