Gray and glorious

It is, on this Sunday afternoon, so gray with fog outside that I can’t see beyond the closest houses on the next block. That’s perfect: I have work that I need to finish, and I need to be at my computer, inside, for it.

For a while this morning, though, it looked like I wasn’t going to be able to get any work done. It was absolutely glorious outside.

When I moved here, I wondered if I would become immune to the natural beauty that kisses this spot on the California coast. I wondered if I would lose sight of the ocean’s magnificence, or if I would forget to marvel at the mysteries it holds.

Three years later, I haven’t become immune, I haven’t lost sight, and I haven’t stopped marveling.

And on a day like today, I can’t imagine I ever will.
